Exactly, I had a stem cell transplant..and I looked into it and it was definitely considered experimental...its also a very very very expensive treatment which St Jude completely covered

no......but you can rely on being smart enough to have insurance and also to have some sort of retirement svaings you can tap into if something like that were to come up and you needed a source to tap into

people have to help themselves and cant rely on those with alot of money to be there to make donations that will help them out

Well maybe just maybe ppl dont have the money and arent as successful in life as you and Mr Gates...so how can you say they are relying on somebody for something they didnt even know was going to happen

im hardly gates successful

but i am smart enough to take advantage of my 401k.......and i also have money set aside in an IRA

its called basic planning for the future

but if anything were to happen and i needed to tap into that for major medical expenses not covered by my insurance.....i can do that

you dont have to be overly successful.....just smart

He needs to see a itemization of actual costs incurred for treatment of someone like my nephew for instance.
The kid's 6 years old and it's WELL over 6 digits by now. And there's only more to come. His medical supplies are not covered by insurance, despite 6 years of attempts to have them cover it.

I dont know many people that have that kind of savings/retirement to dip into, especially at age 35.

owning a house is also big......there is equity thats available there to take out as well

What I am wondering is how is he saying ppl just up and say hey me or my child is going to get a terrible disease..so I better start saving now..

Most ppl barely make it by and are worrying about a million differnet things let alone something terrible like that happening

I feel for anyone using your services.

This is how people lose everything. Because they do have to get a second mortgage, they have to take out credit lines, equity lines. These things have to be paid back, but the medical bills will keep coming.

A lifetime illness(my nephew will be dealing with this until the day he dies) can cost millions. You just really have no clue what healthcare really costs, I'll leave it at that. And I hope you dont find yourself in a position like that to find out first-hand what I'm talking about. Learning the hard way kind of sucks.

you arent saving because you may have a kid who incurs huge medical bills......you use your head and start saving early for retirement......and along the way if something like that does come up......you have funds readily available that you can tap into......and they permit withdrawals for major medical expenses

its an added bonus of planning for your retirement......you have access to funds if such things occur along the way

so instead of having to take money you have to pay back......and taking the responsibility yourself.....you rely on handouts from others?

what kind of strategy is that??

your dedication and love for a sick family member should be enough motivation to do something like take out an equity line and bust your ass to make sure you can pay it back without losing your house

thats still 1000 times better than not taking every available resource you have but hoping others can bail you out without taking money out of your pocket or house or retirmenet account
